HNV 1 <<By David.>> Don't fret because of evil-doers, Neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness. NIV 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; HNV 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither like the green herb. NIV 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. HNV 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. NIV 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. HNV 4 Also delight yourself in the LORD, And he will give you the desires of your heart. NIV 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. HNV 5 Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this: NIV 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: HNV 6 He will make your righteousness go forth as the light, And your justice as the noon day sun. NIV 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. HNV 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Don't fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who makes wicked plots happen. NIV 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. HNV 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don't fret, it leads only to evildoing. NIV 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. HNV 9 For evildoers shall be cut off, But those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land. NIV 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. HNV 10 For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn't there. NIV 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. HNV 11 But the humble shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of shalom. NIV 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. HNV 12 The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. NIV 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; HNV 13 The Lord will laugh at him, For he sees that his day is coming. NIV 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. HNV 14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To kill those who are upright in the way. NIV 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. HNV 15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart. Their bows shall be broken. NIV 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. HNV 16 Better is a little that the righteous has, Than the abundance of many wicked. NIV 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; HNV 17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholds the righteous. NIV 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. HNV 18 The LORD knows the days of the perfect. Their inheritance shall be forever. NIV 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. HNV 19 They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied. NIV 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. HNV 20 But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of the LORD shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish -- Vanish like smoke. NIV 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke. HNV 21 The wicked borrow, and don't pay back, But the righteous give generously. NIV 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; HNV 22 For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land. Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off. NIV 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. HNV 23 A man's goings are established by the LORD. He delights in his way. NIV 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; HNV 24 Though he stumble, he shall not fall, For the LORD holds him up with his hand. NIV 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. HNV 25 I have been young, and now am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his children begging for bread. NIV 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. HNV 26 All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His seed is blessed. NIV 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. HNV 27 Depart from evil, and do good; Live securely forever. NIV 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. HNV 28 For the LORD loves justice, And doesn't forsake his holy ones. They are preserved forever, But the children of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; HNV 29 The righteous shall inherit the land, And live in it forever. NIV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. HNV 32 The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to kill him. NIV 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; HNV 33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged. NIV 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. HNV 34 Wait for the LORD, and keep his way, And he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. NIV 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. HNV 35 I have seen the wicked in great power, Spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. NIV 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, HNV 36 But he passed away, and, behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found. NIV 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. HNV 37 Mark the perfect man, and see the upright, For there is a future for the man of shalom.
