Psalm 38

CSB 1 Lord, do not punish me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath. NIV 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. CSB 2 For Your arrows have sunk into me, and Your hand has pressed down on me. NIV 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. CSB 3 There is no soundness in my body because of Your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. NIV 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. CSB 4 For my sins have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear. NIV 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. CSB 5 My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. NIV 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. CSB 6 I am bent over and brought low; all day long I go around in mourning. NIV 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. CSB 7 For my loins are full of burning pain, and there is no health in my body. NIV 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. CSB 8 I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart. NIV 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. CSB 9 Lord, my every desire is known to You; my sighing is not hidden from You. NIV 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. CSB 10 My heart races, my strength leaves me, and even the light of my eyes has faded. NIV 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. CSB 11 My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance. NIV 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. CSB 12 Those who seek my life set traps, and those who want to harm me threaten to destroy me; they plot treachery all day long. NIV 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception. CSB 13 I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth. NIV 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth; CSB 14 I am like a man who does not hear and has no arguments in his mouth. NIV 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. CSB 15 I put my hope in You, Lord; You will answer, Lord my God. NIV 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. CSB 16 For I said, "Don't let them rejoice over me- those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble." NIV 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." CSB 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is constantly with me. NIV 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. CSB 18 So I confess my guilt; I am anxious because of my sin. NIV 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. CSB 19 But my enemies are vigorous and powerful; many hate me for no reason. NIV 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. CSB 20 Those who repay evil for good attack me for pursuing good. NIV 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. CSB 21 Lord, do not abandon me; my God, do not be far from me. NIV 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. CSB 22 Hurry to help me, Lord, my Savior. NIV 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
