Psalm 41

RSV 1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Blessed is he who considers the poor! The LORD delivers him in the day of trouble; NIV 1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. RSV 2 the LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; thou dost not give him up to the will of his enemies. NIV 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. RSV 3 The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness thou healest all his infirmities. NIV 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness. RSV 4 As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against thee!" NIV 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you." RSV 5 My enemies say of me in malice: "When will he die, and his name perish?" NIV 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?" RSV 6 And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers mischief; when he goes out, he tells it abroad. NIV 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad. RSV 7 All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me. NIV 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying, RSV 8 They say, "A deadly thing has fastened upon him; he will not rise again from where he lies." NIV 8 "A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies." RSV 9 Even my bosom friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted his heel against me. NIV 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. RSV 10 But do thou, O LORD, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may requite them! NIV 10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them. RSV 11 By this I know that thou art pleased with me, in that my enemy has not triumphed over me. NIV 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. RSV 12 But thou hast upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in thy presence for ever. NIV 12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. RSV 13 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen. NIV 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
