Psalm 50

CJB 1 A psalm of Asaf: The Mighty One, God, ADONAI, is speaking, summoning the world from east to west. NIV 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets. CJB 2 Out of Tziyon, the perfection of beauty, God is shining forth. NIV 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. CJB 3 Our God is coming and not staying silent. With a fire devouring ahead of him and a great storm raging around him, NIV 3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. CJB 4 he calls to the heavens above and to earth, in order to judge his people. NIV 4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: CJB 5 "Gather to me my faithful, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." NIV 5 "Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." CJB 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. (Selah) NIV 6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. "Selah" CJB 7 "Listen, my people, I am speaking: Isra'el, I am testifying against you, I, God, your God. NIV 7 "Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God. CJB 8 I am not rebuking you for your sacrifices; your burnt offerings are always before me. NIV 8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. CJB 9 I have no need for a bull from your farm or for male goats from your pens; NIV 9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, CJB 10 for all forest creatures are mine already, as are the animals on a thousand hills; NIV 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. CJB 11 I know all the birds in the mountains; whatever moves in the fields is mine. NIV 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. CJB 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you; for the world is mine, and everything in it. NIV 12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. CJB 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? NIV 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? CJB 14 Offer thanksgiving as your sacrifice to God, pay your vows to the Most High, NIV 14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, CJB 15 and call on me when you are in trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." NIV 15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." CJB 16 But to the wicked God says: "What right do you have to proclaim my laws or take my covenant on your lips, NIV 16 But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? CJB 17 when you so hate to receive instruction and fling my words behind you? NIV 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. CJB 18 When you see a thief, you join up with him, you throw in your lot with adulterers, NIV 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. CJB 19 you give your mouth free rein for evil and harness your tongue to deceit; NIV 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. CJB 20 you sit and speak against your kinsman, you slander your own mother's son. NIV 20 You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother's son. CJB 21 When you do such things, should I stay silent? You may have thought I was just like you; but I will rebuke and indict you to your face. NIV 21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face. CJB 22 Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to save you. NIV 22 "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue: CJB 23 "Whoever offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice honors me; and to him who goes the right way I will show the salvation of God." NIV 23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God."
