Psalm 51

CSB 1 Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithful love; according to Your abundant compassion, blot out my rebellion. NIV 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. CSB 2 Wash away my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin. NIV 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. CSB 3 For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me. NIV 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. CSB 4 Against You-You alone-I have sinned and done this evil in Your sight. So You are right when You pass sentence; You are blameless when You judge. NIV 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. CSB 5 Indeed, I was guilty [when I] was born; I was sinful when my mother conceived me. NIV 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. CSB 6 Surely You desire integrity in the inner self, and You teach me wisdom deep within. NIV 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. CSB 7 Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. NIV 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. CSB 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. NIV 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. CSB 9 Turn Your face away from my sins and blot out all my guilt. NIV 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. CSB 10 God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. NIV 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. CSB 11 Do not banish me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. NIV 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. CSB 12 Restore the joy of Your salvation to me, and give me a willing spirit. NIV 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. CSB 13 Then I will teach the rebellious Your ways, and sinners will return to You. NIV 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. CSB 14 Save me from the guilt of bloodshed, God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing of Your righteousness. NIV 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. CSB 15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. NIV 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. CSB 16 You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it; You are not pleased with a burnt offering. NIV 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. CSB 17 The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. God, You will not despise a broken and humbled heart. NIV 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. CSB 18 In Your good pleasure, cause Zion to prosper; build the walls of Jerusalem. NIV 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. CSB 19 Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
