Psalm 51

NCV 1 God, be merciful to me because you are loving. Because you are always ready to be merciful, wipe out all my wrongs. NIV 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. NCV 2 Wash away all my guilt and make me clean again. NIV 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. NCV 3 I know about my wrongs, and I can't forget my sin. NIV 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. NCV 4 You are the only one I have sinned against; I have done what you say is wrong. You are right when you speak and fair when you judge. NIV 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. NCV 5 I was brought into this world in sin. In sin my mother gave birth to me. NIV 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. NCV 6 You want me to be completely truthful, so teach me wisdom. NIV 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. NCV 7 Take away my sin, and I will be clean. Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. NIV 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. NCV 8 Make me hear sounds of joy and gladness; let the bones you crushed be happy again. NIV 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. NCV 9 Turn your face from my sins and wipe out all my guilt. NIV 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. NCV 10 Create in me a pure heart, God, and make my spirit right again. NIV 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. NCV 11 Do not send me away from you or take your Holy Spirit away from me. NIV 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. NCV 12 Give me back the joy of your salvation. Keep me strong by giving me a willing spirit. NIV 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. NCV 13 Then I will teach your ways to those who do wrong, and sinners will turn back to you. NIV 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. NCV 14 God, save me from the guilt of murder, God of my salvation, and I will sing about your goodness. NIV 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. NCV 15 Lord, let me speak so I may praise you. NIV 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. NCV 16 You are not pleased by sacrifices, or I would give them. You don't want burnt offerings. NIV 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. NCV 17 The sacrifice God wants is a broken spirit. God, you will not reject a heart that is broken and sorry for sin. NIV 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. NCV 18 Do whatever good you wish for Jerusalem. Rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. NIV 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. NCV 19 Then you will be pleased with right sacrifices and whole burnt offerings, and bulls will be offered on your altar. NIV 19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
