Psalm 56

NAS 1 Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me; Fighting all day long he oppresses me. NIV 1 Be merciful to me, O God, for men hotly pursue me; all day long they press their attack. NAS 2 My foes have trampled upon me all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me. NIV 2 My slanderers pursue me all day long; many are attacking me in their pride. NAS 3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. NIV 3 When I am afraid, I will trust in you. NAS 4 In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? NIV 4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? NAS 5 All day long they distort my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. NIV 5 All day long they twist my words; they are always plotting to harm me. NAS 6 They attack, they lurk, They watch my steps, As they have waited to take my life. NIV 6 They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, eager to take my life. NAS 7 Because of wickedness, cast them forth, In anger put down the peoples, O God! NIV 7 On no account let them escape; in your anger, O God, bring down the nations. NAS 8 You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? NIV 8 Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll-- are they not in your record? NAS 9 Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me. NIV 9 Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. NAS 10 In God, whose word I praise, In the LORD , whose word I praise, NIV 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise-- NAS 11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? NIV 11 in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? NAS 12 Your vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You. NIV 12 I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you. NAS 13 For You have delivered my soul from death, Indeed my feet from stumbling, So that I may walk before God In the light of the living. NIV 13 For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
