Psalm 69

ASV 1 Save me, O God; For the waters are come in unto my soul. NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. ASV 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. ASV 3 I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried: Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. ASV 4 They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: That which I took not away I have to restore. NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. ASV 5 O God, thou knowest my foolishness; And my sins are not hid from thee. NIV 5 You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you. ASV 6 Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts: Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. NIV 6 May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the LORD Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O God of Israel. ASV 7 Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. ASV 8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother's children. NIV 8 I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother's sons; ASV 9 For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. ASV 10 When I wept, [and chastened] my soul with fasting, That was to my reproach. NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; ASV 11 When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword unto them. NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. ASV 12 They that sit in the gate talk of me; And [I am] the song of the drunkards. NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. ASV 13 But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time: O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness, Answer me in the truth of thy salvation. NIV 13 But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. ASV 14 Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. ASV 15 Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep shallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. ASV 16 Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me. NIV 16 Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. ASV 17 And hide not thy face from thy servant; For I am in distress; answer me speedily. NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. ASV 18 Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: Ransom me because of mine enemies. NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; redeem me because of my foes. ASV 19 Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: Mine adversaries are all before thee. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. ASV 20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. ASV 21 They gave me also gall for my food; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. ASV 22 Let their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, [let it become] a trap. NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. ASV 23 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see; And make their loins continually to shake. NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. ASV 24 Pour out thine indignation upon them, And let the fierceness of thine anger overtake them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. ASV 25 Let their habitation be desolate; Let none dwell in their tents. NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. ASV 26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; And they tell of the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. ASV 27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity; And let them not come into thy righteousness. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. ASV 28 Let them be blotted out of the book of life, And not be written with the righteous. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. ASV 29 But I am poor and sorrowful: Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. NIV 29 I am in pain and distress; may your salvation, O God, protect me. ASV 30 I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving. NIV 30 I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. ASV 31 And it will please Jehovah better than an ox, [Or] a bullock that hath horns and hoofs. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs. ASV 32 The meek have seen it, and are glad: Ye that seek after God, let your heart live. NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad-- you who seek God, may your hearts live! ASV 33 For Jehovah heareth the needy, And despiseth not his prisoners. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. ASV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, The seas, and everything that moveth therein. NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, ASV 35 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah; And they shall abide there, and have it in possession. NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; ASV 36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it; And they that love his name shall dwell therein. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
