Psalm 69

CJB 1 For the leader. Set to "Lilies." By David: Save me, God! For the water threatens my life. NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. CJB 2 I am sinking down in the mud, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep water; the flood is sweeping over me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. CJB 3 I am exhausted from crying, my throat is dry and sore, my eyes are worn out with looking for my God. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. CJB 4 Those who hate me for no reason outnumber the hairs on my head. My persecutors are powerful, my enemies accuse me falsely. Am I expected to return things I didn't steal? NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. CJB 5 God, you know how foolish I am; my guilt is not hidden from you. NIV 5 You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you. CJB 6 Let those who put their hope in you, Adonai ELOHIM-Tzva'ot, not be put to shame through me; let those who are seeking you, God of Isra'el, not be disgraced through me. NIV 6 May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the LORD Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O God of Israel. CJB 7 For your sake I suffer insults, shame covers my face. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. CJB 8 I am estranged from my brothers, an alien to my mother's children, NIV 8 I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother's sons; CJB 9 because zeal for your house is eating me up, and on me are falling the insults of those insulting you. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. CJB 10 I weep bitterly, and I fast, but that too occasions insults. NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; CJB 11 I clothe myself with sackcloth and become an object of scorn, 856 NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. CJB 12 the gossip of those sitting by the town gate, the theme of drunkards' songs. NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. CJB 13 As for me, ADONAI, let my prayer to you come at an acceptable time; In your great grace, God, answer me with the truth of your salvation. NIV 13 But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. CJB 14 Rescue me from the mud! Don't let me sink! Let me be rescued from those who hate me and from the deep water. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. CJB 15 Don't let the floodwaters overwhelm me, don't let the deep swallow me up, don't let the pit close its mouth over me. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. CJB 16 Answer me, ADONAI, for your grace is good; in your great mercy, turn to me. NIV 16 Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. CJB 17 Don't hide your face from your servant, for I am in trouble; answer me quickly. NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. CJB 18 Come near to me, and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies. NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; redeem me because of my foes. CJB 19 You know how I am insulted, shamed and disgraced; before you stand all my foes. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. CJB 20 Insults have broken my heart to the point that I could die. I hoped that someone would show compassion, but nobody did; and that there would be comforters, but I found none. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. CJB 21 They put poison in my food; in my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. CJB 22 Let their dining table before them become a snare; when they are at peace, let it become a trap; NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. CJB 23 let their eyes be darkened, so that they can't see, and let their bodies always be stumbling. NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. CJB 24 Pour out your fury on them, let your fierce anger overtake them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. CJB 25 Let the place where they live be desolate, with no one to live in their tents, NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. CJB 26 for persecuting someone you had already stricken, for adding to the pain of those you wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. CJB 27 Add guilt to their guilt, don't let them enter your righteousness. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. CJB 28 Erase them from the book of life, let them not be written with the righteous. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. CJB 29 Meanwhile, I am afflicted and hurting; God, let your saving power raise me up. NIV 29 I am in pain and distress; may your salvation, O God, protect me. CJB 30 I will praise God's name with a song and extol him with thanksgiving. NIV 30 I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. CJB 31 This will please ADONAI more than a bull, with its horns and hoofs. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs. CJB 32 The afflicted will see it and rejoice; you seeking after God, let your heart revive. NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad-- you who seek God, may your hearts live! CJB 33 For ADONAI pays attention to the needy and doesn't scorn his captive people. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. CJB 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and whatever moves in them. NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, CJB 35 For God will save Tziyon, he will build the cities of Y'hudah. [His people] will settle there and possess it. NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; CJB 36 The descendants of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will live there. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
