Psalm 69

TMB 1 <<To the chief musician: Upon Shoshannim. A Psalm of David.>> Save me, O God, for the waters have come in unto my soul. NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. TMB 2 I sink into deep mire where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters where the floods overflow me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. TMB 3 I am weary of my crying, my throat is dry; mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. TMB 4 They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head; they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty. Then I was made to restore that which I took not away. NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. TMB 5 O God, Thou knowest my foolishness, and my sins are not hid from Thee. NIV 5 You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you. TMB 6 Let not them that wait on Thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake, let not those that seek Thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel, NIV 6 May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the LORD Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O God of Israel. TMB 7 because for Thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. TMB 8 I have become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. NIV 8 I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother's sons; TMB 9 For the zeal for Thine house hath eaten me up, and the reproaches of them that reproached Thee have fallen upon me. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. TMB 10 When I wept and chastened my soul with fasting, that was turned to my reproach. NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; TMB 11 I also made sackcloth my garment, and I became a proverb to them. NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. TMB 12 They that sit at the gate speak against me, and I have become the song of the drunkards. NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. TMB 13 But as for me, my prayer is unto Thee: O LORD, in an acceptable time, O God, in the multitude of Thy mercy hear me in the truth of Thy salvation. NIV 13 But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. TMB 14 Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from them that hate me and out of the deep waters. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. TMB 15 Let not the floodwater overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up; and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. TMB 16 Hear me, O LORD, for Thy lovingkindness is good; turn unto me according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies. NIV 16 Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. TMB 17 And hide not Thy face from Thy servant, for I am in trouble; hear me speedily. NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. TMB 18 Draw nigh unto my soul and redeem it; deliver me because of mine enemies. NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; redeem me because of my foes. TMB 19 Thou hast known my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; mine adversaries are all before Thee. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. TMB 20 Reproach hath broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; I looked for some to take pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. TMB 21 They gave me also gall for my meat, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. TMB 22 Let their table become a snare before them, and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. TMB 23 Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake. NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. TMB 24 Pour out Thine indignation upon them, and let Thy wrathful anger take hold of them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. TMB 25 Let their habitation be desolate, and let none dwell in their tents. NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. TMB 26 For they persecute him whom Thou hast smitten, and they talk of the grief of those whom Thou hast wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. TMB 27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity, and let them not come into Thy righteousness. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. TMB 28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. TMB 29 But I am poor and sorrowful; let Thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. NIV 29 I am in pain and distress; may your salvation, O God, protect me. TMB 30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. NIV 30 I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. TMB 31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or a bullock that hath horns and hoofs. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs. TMB 32 The humble shall see this and be glad, and your heart shall live, that seek God. NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad-- you who seek God, may your hearts live! TMB 33 For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not His prisoners. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. TMB 34 Let the heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and every thing that moveth therein. NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, TMB 35 For God will save Zion and will build the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it. NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; TMB 36 The seed also of His servants shall inherit it, and them that love His name shall dwell therein. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
