Psalm 71

NLT 1 O , I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. NLT 2 Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free. NIV 2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me. NLT 3 Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. NIV 3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. NLT 4 My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. NIV 4 Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men. NLT 5 O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O , from childhood. NIV 5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. NLT 6 Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! NIV 6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you. NLT 7 My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. NIV 7 I have become like a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. NLT 8 That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. NIV 8 My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. NLT 9 And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing. NIV 9 Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. NLT 10 For my enemies are whispering against me. They are plotting together to kill me. NIV 10 For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. NLT 11 They say, “God has abandoned him. Let’s go and get him, for no one will help him now.” NIV 11 They say, "God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him." NLT 12 O God, don’t stay away. My God, please hurry to help me. NIV 12 Be not far from me, O God; come quickly, O my God, to help me. NLT 13 Bring disgrace and destruction on my accusers. Humiliate and shame those who want to harm me. NIV 13 May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. NLT 14 But I will keep on hoping for your help; I will praise you more and more. NIV 14 But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. NLT 15 I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. NIV 15 My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure. NLT 16 I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign . I will tell everyone that you alone are just. NIV 16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone. NLT 17 O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. NIV 17 Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. NLT 18 Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. NIV 18 Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. NLT 19 Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God? NIV 19 Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, you who have done great things. Who, O God, is like you? NLT 20 You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. NIV 20 Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. NLT 21 You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. NIV 21 You will increase my honor and comfort me once again. NLT 22 Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel. NIV 22 I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. NLT 23 I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. NIV 23 My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you-- I, whom you have redeemed. NLT 24 I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated. NIV 24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion.
