Psalm 71

RSV 1 In thee, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame! NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. RSV 2 In thy righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline thy ear to me, and save me! NIV 2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me. RSV 3 Be thou to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress, to save me, for thou art my rock and my fortress. NIV 3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. RSV 4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man. NIV 4 Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men. RSV 5 For thou, O Lord, art my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth. NIV 5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. RSV 6 Upon thee I have leaned from my birth; thou art he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of thee. NIV 6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you. RSV 7 I have been as a portent to many; but thou art my strong refuge. NIV 7 I have become like a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. RSV 8 My mouth is filled with thy praise, and with thy glory all the day. NIV 8 My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. RSV 9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. NIV 9 Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. RSV 10 For my enemies speak concerning me, those who watch for my life consult together, NIV 10 For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. RSV 11 and say, "God has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him." NIV 11 They say, "God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him." RSV 12 O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! NIV 12 Be not far from me, O God; come quickly, O my God, to help me. RSV 13 May my accusers be put to shame and consumed; with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt. NIV 13 May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. RSV 14 But I will hope continually, and will praise thee yet more and more. NIV 14 But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. RSV 15 My mouth will tell of thy righteous acts, of thy deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. NIV 15 My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure. RSV 16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come, I will praise thy righteousness, thine alone. NIV 16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone. RSV 17 O God, from my youth thou hast taught me, and I still proclaim thy wondrous deeds. NIV 17 Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. RSV 18 So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, till I proclaim thy might to all the generations to come. Thy power NIV 18 Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. RSV 19 and thy righteousness, O God, reach the high heavens. Thou who hast done great things, O God, who is like thee? NIV 19 Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, you who have done great things. Who, O God, is like you? RSV 20 Thou who hast made me see many sore troubles wilt revive me again; from the depths of the earth thou wilt bring me up again. NIV 20 Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. RSV 21 Thou wilt increase my honor, and comfort me again. NIV 21 You will increase my honor and comfort me once again. RSV 22 I will also praise thee with the harp for thy faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to thee with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. NIV 22 I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. RSV 23 My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to thee; my soul also, which thou hast rescued. NIV 23 My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you-- I, whom you have redeemed. RSV 24 And my tongue will talk of thy righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disgraced who sought to do me hurt. NIV 24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion.
