Psalm 72

CSB 1 God, give Your justice to the king and Your righteousness to the king's son. NIV 1 Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness. CSB 2 He will judge Your people with righteousness and Your afflicted ones with justice. NIV 2 He will judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. CSB 3 May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, and the hills, righteousness. NIV 3 The mountains will bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. CSB 4 May he vindicate the afflicted among the people, help the poor, and crush the oppressor. NIV 4 He will defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; he will crush the oppressor. CSB 5 May he continue while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations. NIV 5 He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. CSB 6 May he be like rain that falls on the cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth. NIV 6 He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth. CSB 7 May the righteous flourish in his days, and prosperity abound until the moon is no more. NIV 7 In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more. CSB 8 And may he rule from sea to sea and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth. NIV 8 He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. CSB 9 May desert tribes kneel before him and his enemies lick the dust. NIV 9 The desert tribes will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust. CSB 10 May the kings of Tarshish and the coasts and islands bring tribute, the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. NIV 10 The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him; the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts. CSB 11 And let all kings bow down to him, all nations serve him. NIV 11 All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him. CSB 12 For he will rescue the poor who cry out and the afflicted who have no helper. NIV 12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. CSB 13 He will have pity on the poor and helpless and save the lives of the poor. NIV 13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. CSB 14 He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious in his sight. NIV 14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight. CSB 15 May he live long! May gold from Sheba be given to him. May prayer be offered for him continually, and may he be blessed all day long. NIV 15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long. CSB 16 May there be plenty of grain in the land; may it wave on the tops of the mountains. May its crops be like Lebanon. May people flourish in the cities like the grass of the field. NIV 16 Let grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon; let it thrive like the grass of the field. CSB 17 May his name endure forever; as long as the sun shines, may his fame increase. May all nations be blessed by him and call him blessed. NIV 17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. CSB 18 May the Lord God, the God of Israel, be praised, who alone does wonders. NIV 18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. CSB 19 May His glorious name be praised forever; the whole earth is filled with His glory. Amen and amen. NIV 19 Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory.
