Psalm 81

CSB 1 Sing for joy to God our strength; shout in triumph to the God of Jacob. NIV 1 Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! CSB 2 Lift up a song-play the tambourine, the melodious lyre, and the harp. NIV 2 Begin the music, strike the tambourine, play the melodious harp and lyre. CSB 3 Blow the horn during the new moon and during the full moon, on the day of our feast. NIV 3 Sound the ram's horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our Feast; CSB 4 For this is a statute for Israel, a judgment of the God of Jacob. NIV 4 this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. CSB 5 He set it up as an ordinance for Joseph when He went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard an unfamiliar language: NIV 5 He established it as a statute for Joseph when he went out against Egypt, where we heard a language we did not understand. CSB 6 "I relieved his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from [carrying] the basket. NIV 6 He says, "I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. CSB 7 You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah NIV 7 In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. "Selah" CSB 8 Listen, My people, and I will admonish you. Israel, if you would only listen to Me! NIV 8 "Hear, O my people, and I will warn you-- if you would but listen to me, O Israel! CSB 9 There must not be a strange god among you; you must not bow down to a foreign god. NIV 9 You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not bow down to an alien god. CSB 10 I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. NIV 10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. CSB 11 "But My people did not listen to Me; Israel did not obey Me. NIV 11 "But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. CSB 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans. NIV 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. CSB 13 If only My people would listen to Me and Israel would follow My ways, NIV 13 "If my people would but listen to me, if Israel would follow my ways, CSB 14 I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes." NIV 14 how quickly would I subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes! CSB 15 Those who hate the Lord would pretend submission to Him; their doom would last forever. NIV 15 Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever. CSB 16 But He would feed Israel with the best wheat. "I would satisfy you with honey from the rock." NIV 16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."
