RSV 1 A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, do not keep silence; do not hold thy peace or be still, O God! NIV 1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. RSV 2 For lo, thy enemies are in tumult; those who hate thee have raised their heads. NIV 2 See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. RSV 3 They lay crafty plans against thy people; they consult together against thy protected ones. NIV 3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. RSV 4 They say, "Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!" NIV 4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." RSV 5 Yea, they conspire with one accord; against thee they make a covenant-- NIV 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-- RSV 6 the tents of Edom and the Ish'maelites, Moab and the Hagrites, NIV 6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, RSV 7 Gebal and Ammon and Am'alek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; NIV 7 Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. RSV 8 Assyria also has joined them; they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. [Selah] NIV 8 Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. "Selah" RSV 9 Do to them as thou didst to Mid'ian, as to Sis'era and Jabin at the river Kishon, NIV 9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, RSV 10 who were destroyed at En-dor, who became dung for the ground. NIV 10 who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground. RSV 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmun'na, NIV 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, RSV 12 who said, "Let us take possession for ourselves of the pastures of God." NIV 12 who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God." RSV 13 O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. NIV 13 Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind. RSV 14 As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, NIV 14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, RSV 15 so do thou pursue them with thy tempest and terrify them with thy hurricane! NIV 15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. RSV 16 Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek thy name, O LORD. NIV 16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD. RSV 17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever; let them perish in disgrace. NIV 17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. RSV 18 Let them know that thou alone, whose name is the LORD, art the Most High over all the earth. NIV 18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD -- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
