A Psalm of Heman the Ezrahite, giving instruction.>> O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before Thee. NIV 1 O LORD, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. TMB 2 Let my prayer come before Thee; incline Thine ear unto my cry. NIV 2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. TMB 3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. NIV 3 For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave. TMB 4 I am counted with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no strength, NIV 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. TMB 5 cast among the dead like the slain that lie in the grave, whom Thou rememberest no more, and who are cut off from Thy hand. NIV 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. TMB 6 Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. NIV 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. TMB 7 Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and Thou hast afflicted me with all Thy waves. Selah NIV 7 Your wrath lies heavily upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. "Selah" TMB 8 Thou hast put away mine acquaintances far from me; Thou hast made me an abomination unto them. I am shut up, and I cannot come forth; NIV 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; TMB 9 mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction. LORD, I have called daily upon Thee; I have stretched out my hands unto Thee. NIV 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. TMB 10 Wilt Thou show wonders to the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise Thee? Selah NIV 10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do those who are dead rise up and praise you? "Selah" TMB 11 Shall Thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Thy faithfulness in destruction? NIV 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ? TMB 12 Shall Thy wonders be known in the dark? And Thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? NIV 12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? TMB 13 But unto Thee have I cried, O LORD, and in the morning shall my prayer come before Thee. NIV 13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. TMB 14 LORD, why castest Thou off my soul? Why hidest Thou Thy face from me? NIV 14 Why, O LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me? TMB 15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up; while I suffer Thy terrors I am distraught. NIV 15 From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in despair. TMB 16 Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; Thy terrors have cut me off. NIV 16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. TMB 17 They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. NIV 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. TMB 18 Lover and friend hast Thou put far from me, and mine acquaintances into darkness. NIV 18 You have taken my companions and loved ones from me; the darkness is my closest friend.
