Revelation 1:9-20

MSG 9 I, John, with you all the way in the trial and the Kingdom and the passion of patience in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of God's Word, the witness of Jesus. NIV 9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. MSG 10 It was Sunday and I was in the Spirit, praying. I heard a loud voice behind me, trumpet-clear and piercing: NIV 10 On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, MSG 11 "Write what you see into a book. Send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea." NIV 11 which said: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea." MSG 12 I turned and saw the voice. I saw a gold menorah with seven branches, NIV 12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, MSG 13 And in the center, the Son of Man, in a robe and gold breastplate, NIV 13 and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man," dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. MSG 14 hair a blizzard of white, Eyes pouring fire-blaze, NIV 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. MSG 15 both feet furnace-fired bronze, His voice a cataract, NIV 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. MSG 16 right hand holding the Seven Stars, His mouth a sharp-biting sword, his face a perigee sun. NIV 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. MSG 17 I saw this and fainted dead at his feet. His right hand pulled me upright, his voice reassured me: NIV 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. MSG 18 I'm Alive. I died, but I came to life, and my life is now forever. See these keys in my hand? They open and lock Death's doors, they open and lock Hell's gates. NIV 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. MSG 19 Now write down everything you see: things that are, things about to be. NIV 19 "Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. MSG 20 The Seven Stars you saw in my right hand and the seven-branched gold menorah - do you want to know what's behind them? The Seven Stars are the Angels of the seven churches; the menorah's seven branches are the seven churches." NIV 20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
