LEB 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea did not exist [any] longer. NIV 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. LEB 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. LEB 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling of God [is] with humanity, and he will take up residence with them, and they will be his people and God himself will be with them.<note: Some manuscripts have "with them [as] their God"> NIV 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. LEB 4 And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist [any] longer, and mourning or wailing or pain will not exist [any] longer. The former [things] have passed away." NIV 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." LEB 5 And the one seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all [things] new!" And he said, "Write, because these words are faithful and true." NIV 5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." LEB 6 And he said to me, "It is done! I [am] the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give [water] from the spring of the water of life freely. NIV 6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. LEB 7 The one who conquers will inherit these [things], and I will be {his God} and he will be {my son}. NIV 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. LEB 8 But [as] for the cowards and unbelievers and detestable persons and murderers and sexually immoral people and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share [is] in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death. NIV 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." LEB 9 And one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." NIV 9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." And he measured the city with the measuring rod at twelve thousand stadia; the length and the width and the height of it are equal. NIV 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. LEB 17 And he measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubits {according to human measure}, which is the angel's. NIV 17 He measured its wall and it was 144 cubits thick, by man's measurement, which the angel was using. LEB 18 And the material of its wall [is] jasper, and the city [is] pure gold, similar in appearance to pure glass. NIV 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. LEB 21 And the twelve gates [are] twelve pearls, each one of the gates was from a single pearl. And the street of the city [is] pure gold, like transparent glass. NIV 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass. LEB 22 And I did not see a temple in it, for the Lord God All-Powerful is its temple, and the Lamb. NIV 22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. LEB 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp [is] the Lamb. NIV 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. LEB 24 And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. NIV 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. LEB 25 And its gates will never be shut by day (for there will be no night there), NIV 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. LEB 26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. NIV 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. LEB 27 And every unclean thing and one who practices detestable things and falsehood will never enter into it, except those who are written in the book of life of the Lamb. NIV 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
