Romans 10

NRSA 1 Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. NIV 1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. NRSA 2 I can testify that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened. NIV 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. NRSA 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they have not submitted to God's righteousness. NIV 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. NRSA 4 For Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. NIV 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. NRSA 5 Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that "the person who does these things will live by them." NIV 5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." NRSA 6 But the righteousness that comes from faith says, "Do not say in your heart, "Who will ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down) NIV 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down) NRSA 7 "or "Who will descend into the abyss?' " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). NIV 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?' " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). NRSA 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); NIV 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: NRSA 9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. NIV 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. NRSA 10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. NIV 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. NRSA 11 The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." NIV 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." NRSA 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. NIV 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, NRSA 13 For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." NIV 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." NRSA 14 But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? NIV 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? NRSA 15 And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" NIV 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" NRSA 16 But not all have obeyed the good news; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?" NIV 16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?" NRSA 17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. NIV 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. NRSA 18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have; for "Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." NIV 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: "Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." NRSA 19 Again I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, "I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry." NIV 19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, "I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding." NRSA 20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, "I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me." NIV 20 And Isaiah boldly says, "I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me." NRSA 21 But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people." NIV 21 But concerning Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people."
