Romans 12

CEB 1 So, brothers and sisters, because of God's mercies, I encourage you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. This is your appropriate priestly service. NIV 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. CEB 2 Don't be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God's will is—what is good and pleasing and mature. NIV 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. CEB 3 Because of the grace that God gave me, I can say to each one of you: don't think of yourself more highly than you ought to think. Instead, be reasonable since God has measured out a portion of faith to each one of you. NIV 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. CEB 4 We have many parts in one body, but the parts don't all have the same function. NIV 4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, CEB 5 In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other. NIV 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. CEB 6 We have different gifts that are consistent with God's grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith. NIV 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. CEB 7 If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to teaching. NIV 7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; CEB 8 If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful. NIV 8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. CEB 9 Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. NIV 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. CEB 10 Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other. NIV 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. CEB 11 Don't hesitate to be enthusiastic—be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord! NIV 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. CEB 12 Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you're in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer. NIV 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. CEB 13 Contribute to the needs of God's people, and welcome strangers into your home. NIV 13 Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. CEB 14 Bless people who harass you—bless and don't curse them. NIV 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. CEB 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and cry with those who are crying. NIV 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. CEB 16 Consider everyone as equal, and don't think that you're better than anyone else. Instead, associate with people who have no status. Don't think that you're so smart. NIV 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. CEB 17 Don't pay back anyone for their evil actions with evil actions, but show respect for what everyone else believes is good. NIV 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. CEB 18 If possible, to the best of your ability, live at peace with all people. NIV 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. CEB 19 Don't try to get revenge for yourselves, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath. It is written, Revenge belongs to me; I will pay it back, says the Lord. NIV 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. CEB 20 Instead, If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. By doing this, you will pile burning coals of fire upon his head. NIV 20 On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." CEB 21 Don't be defeated by evil, but defeat evil with good. NIV 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
