Romans 5

NCV 1 Since we have been made right with God by our faith, we have peace with God. This happened through our Lord Jesus Christ, NIV 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, NCV 2 who has brought us into that blessing of God's grace that we now enjoy. And we are happy because of the hope we have of sharing God's glory. NIV 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. NCV 3 We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. NIV 3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; NCV 4 And patience produces character, and character produces hope. NIV 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. NCV 5 And this hope will never disappoint us, because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts. He gave us his love through the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to us. NIV 5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. NCV 6 When we were unable to help ourselves, at the moment of our need, Christ died for us, although we were living against God. NIV 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. NCV 7 Very few people will die to save the life of someone else. Although perhaps for a good person someone might possibly die. NIV 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. NCV 8 But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners. NIV 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. NCV 9 So through Christ we will surely be saved from God's anger, because we have been made right with God by the blood of Christ's death. NIV 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! NCV 10 While we were God's enemies, he made friends with us through the death of his Son. Surely, now that we are his friends, he will save us through his Son's life. NIV 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! NCV 11 And not only that, but now we are also very happy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we are now God's friends again. NIV 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. NCV 12 Sin came into the world because of what one man did, and with sin came death. This is why everyone must die -- because everyone sinned. NIV 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned-- NCV 13 Sin was in the world before the law of Moses, but sin is not counted against us as breaking a command when there is no law. NIV 13 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. NCV 14 But from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, everyone had to die, even those who had not sinned by breaking a command, as Adam had. Adam was like the One who was coming in the future. NIV 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. NCV 15 But God's free gift is not like Adam's sin. Many people died because of the sin of that one man. But the grace from God was much greater; many people received God's gift of life by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ. NIV 15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! NCV 16 After Adam sinned once, he was judged guilty. But the gift of God is different. God's free gift came after many sins, and it makes people right with God. NIV 16 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. NCV 17 One man sinned, and so death ruled all people because of that one man. But now those people who accept God's full grace and the great gift of being made right with him will surely have true life and rule through the one man, Jesus Christ. NIV 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. NCV 18 So as one sin of Adam brought the punishment of death to all people, one good act that Christ did makes all people right with God. And that brings true life for all. NIV 18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. NCV 19 One man disobeyed God, and many became sinners. In the same way, one man obeyed God, and many will be made right. NIV 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. NCV 20 The law came to make sin worse. But when sin grew worse, God's grace increased. NIV 20 The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, NCV 21 Sin once used death to rule us, but God gave people more of his grace so that grace could rule by making people right with him. And this brings life forever through Jesus Christ our Lord. NIV 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
