Romans 5:12-21

NRS 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned— NIV 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned-- NRS 13 sin was indeed in the world before the law, but sin is not reckoned when there is no law. NIV 13 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. NRS 14 Yet death exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one who was to come. NIV 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. NRS 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many. NIV 15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! NRS 16 And the free gift is not like the effect of the one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. NIV 16 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. NRS 17 If, because of the one man's trespass, death exercised dominion through that one, much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness exercise dominion in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. NIV 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. NRS 18 Therefore just as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all, so one man's act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all. NIV 18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. NRS 19 For just as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. NIV 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. NRS 20 But law came in, with the result that the trespass multiplied; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, NIV 20 The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, NRS 21 so that, just as sin exercised dominion in death, so grace might also exercise dominion through justification leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. NIV 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
