1 Y Booz subió a la puerta y se sentó allí: y he aquí pasaba aquel redentor del cual Booz había hablado, y le dijo: Eh, fulano, ven acá y siéntate. Y él vino, y se sentó.

Meanwhile Boaz went up to the town gate and sat down there just as the guardian-redeemer he had mentioned came along. Boaz said, “Come over here, my friend, and sit down.” So he went over and sat down.
2 Entonces él tomó diez varones de los ancianos de la ciudad, y dijo: Sentaos aquí. Y <I>ellos</I> se sentaron.

Boaz took ten of the elders of the town and said, “Sit here,” and they did so.
3 Y dijo al redentor: Una parte de las tierras que tuvo nuestro hermano Elimelec, vendió Noemí, la que volvió del campo de Moab;

Then he said to the guardian-redeemer, “Naomi, who has come back from Moab, is selling the piece of land that belonged to our relative Elimelek.
4 y yo decidí hacértelo saber, y decirte <I>que las</I> tomes delante de los que están <I>aquí</I> sentados, y delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo. Si hubieres de redimir, redime; y si no quisieres redimir, decláramelo para que yo lo sepa; porque no hay <I>otro</I> que redima sino tú, y yo después de ti. Y él <I>otro</I> respondió: Yo redimiré.

I thought I should bring the matter to your attention and suggest that you buy it in the presence of these seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, do so. But if you will not, tell me, so I will know. For no one has the right to do it except you, and I am next in line.” “I will redeem it,” he said.
5 Entonces replicó Booz: El mismo día que tomares las tierras de mano de Noemí, tomarás también a Rut <I>la</I> moabita, mujer del difunto, para que levantes el nombre del muerto sobre su posesión.

Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the land from Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, the dead man’s widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property.”
6 Y respondió el redentor: No puedo redimir a mi provecho; porque por ventura echaría a perder mi heredad; redime tú, yo te traspaso mi derecho, porque <I>yo</I> no podré redimir.

At this, the guardian-redeemer said, “Then I cannot redeem it because I might endanger my own estate. You redeem it yourself. I cannot do it.”
7 Había ya de largo tiempo esta costumbre en Israel en la redención o contrato, que para la confirmación de cualquier negocio, el uno se quitaba el zapato y lo daba a su compañero; y éste era el testimonio en Israel.

(Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel.)
8 Entonces el pariente dijo a Booz: Tómalo tú. Y <I>diciendo esto</I> descalzó su zapato.

So the guardian-redeemer said to Boaz, “Buy it yourself.” And he removed his sandal.
9 Y Booz dijo a los ancianos y a todo el pueblo: Vosotros <I>seréis</I> hoy testigos de como tomo todas las cosas que fueron de Elimelec, y todo lo que fue de Quelión y de Mahlón, de mano de Noemí.

Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, “Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelek, Kilion and Mahlon.
10 Y que también tomo por mi mujer a Rut <I>la</I> moabita, mujer de Mahlón, para que <I>yo</I> levante el nombre del difunto sobre su heredad, para que el nombre del muerto no se pierda de entre sus hermanos y de la puerta (<I>o congregación</I> ) de su lugar. Vosotros <I>seréis</I> hoy testigos.

I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from his hometown. Today you are witnesses!”
11 Y dijeron todos los del pueblo que estaban a la puerta con los ancianos: Testigos <I>somos</I> . El SEÑOR haga a la mujer que entra en tu casa como a Raquel y a Lea, las cuales dos edificaron la casa de Israel; y <I>tú</I> seas ilustre en Efrata, y tengas nombradía en Belén;

Then the elders and all the people at the gate said, “We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the family of Israel. May you have standing in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.
12 tu casa sea como la casa de Fares, al que Tamar dio a luz a Judá, de la simiente que el SEÑOR te diere de esta joven.

Through the offspring the LORD gives you by this young woman, may your family be like that of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah.”
13 Y <I>así</I> Booz tomó a Rut, y <I>ella</I> fue su mujer; y luego que entró a ella, el SEÑOR le dio que concibiese y diese a luz un hijo.

So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.
14 Y las mujeres decían a Noemí: Loado sea el SEÑOR, que hizo que no te faltase redentor hoy, cuyo nombre será nombrado en Israel.

The women said to Naomi: “Praise be to the LORD, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel!
15 El cual será restaurador de tu alma, y el que sustentará tu vejez; pues que tu nuera, la cual te ama, le ha dado a luz; y <I>ella</I> te vale más que siete hijos.

He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.”
16 Y tomando Noemí el hijo, lo puso en su regazo, y fue su aya.

Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him.
17 Y las vecinas le pusieron nombre diciendo: a Noemí ha nacido un hijo; y le llamaron Obed. Este <I>es</I> padre de Isaí, padre de David.

The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 Y éstas <I>son</I> las generaciones de Fares: Fares engendró a Hezrón;

This, then, is the family line of Perez: Perez was the father of Hezron,
19 y Hezrón engendró a Ram, y Ram engendró a Aminadab;

Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab,
20 y Aminadab engendró a Naasón, y Naasón engendró a Salmón;

Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,
21 Y Salmón engendró a Booz, y Booz engendró a Obed;

Salmon the father of Boaz, Boaz the father of Obed,
22 y Obed engendró a Isaí, e Isaí engendró a David.

Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David.
