1 Escucha, pueblo mío, mi ley; inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca

2 Abriré mi boca en parábola; hablaré enigmas del <em>tiempo</em> antiguo

3 Las cuales hemos oído y entendido; que nuestros padres nos <em>las</em> contaron

4 No <em>las</em> encubriremos a sus hijos, contando a la generación venidera las alabanzas del SEÑOR, y su fortaleza, y sus maravillas que hizo

5 El estableció testimonio en Jacob, y puso ley en Israel; las cuales mandó a nuestros padres que las notificaran a sus hijos

6 para que lo sepa la generación venidera, y los hijos que nacerán; <em>y los que</em> se levantarán, <em>lo</em> cuenten a sus hijo

7 con el fin de poner su confianza en Dios, y no olvidar de las obras de Dios, y guardar sus mandamientos

8 Y no ser como sus padres, generación contumaz y rebelde; generación que no compuso su corazón, ni su espíritu fue fiel con Dios

9 Los hijos de Efraín armados, flecheros, volvieron <em>las espaldas en</em> el día de la batalla

10 No guardaron el pacto de Dios, ni quisieron andar en su ley

11 antes se olvidaron de sus obras, y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado

12 Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán

13 Rompió el mar, y los hizo pasar; e hizo estar las aguas como en un montón

14 Y los llevó con nube de día, y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego

15 Hendió las peñas en el desierto; y les dio a beber de abismos grandes

16 y sacó de la peña corrientes, e hizo descender aguas como ríos

17 Pero aun tornaron a pecar contra él, enojando al Altísimo en la soledad

18 Y tentaron a Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida al gusto de su alma

19 Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: ¿Podrá Dios ponernos mesa en el desierto

20 He aquí ha herido la peña, y corrieron aguas, y arroyos salieron ondeando: ¿Podrá también dar pan? ¿Aparejará carne a su pueblo

21 Por tanto oyó el SEÑOR, y se enojó; se encendió el fuego contra Jacob, y el furor subió también contra Israel

22 por cuanto no habían creído a Dios, ni habían confiado de su salud

23 Y mandó a las nubes de arriba, y abrió las puertas de los cielos

24 e hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, y les dio trigo de los cielos

25 Pan de fuertes comió el hombre; les envió comida en abundancia

26 Movió el solano en el cielo, y trajo con su fortaleza el austro

27 e hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo, y aves de alas como arena del mar

28 Y <em>las</em> hizo caer en medio de su campamento, alrededor de sus tiendas

29 Y comieron, y se llenaron bien; les cumplió pues su deseo

30 No habían quitado de sí su deseo, aun <em>estaba</em> su vianda en su boca

31 cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, y mató los más robustos de ellos, y derribó los escogidos de Israel

32 Con todo esto pecaron aún, y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas

33 Consumió <em>por tanto</em> sus días en vanidad, y sus años en tribulación

34 Si los mataba, entonces le buscaban; y se convertían, y buscaban a Dios de mañana

35 Y se acordaban que Dios <em>era</em> su refugio, y el Dios Alto su redentor

36 Mas le lisonjeaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían

37 pues sus corazones no <em>eran</em> rectos con él, ni estuvieron firmes en su pacto

38 Pero él, misericordioso, perdonaba su iniquidad, y no <em>los</em> destruyó; y abundó <em>su misericordia</em> para apartar su ira, y no despertó toda su ira

39 Y se acordó que eran carne; soplo que va y no vuelve

40 ¡Cuántas veces lo ensañaron en el desierto, lo enojaron en la soledad

41 Y volvían, y tentaban a Dios, y ponían límite al Santo de Israel

42 No se acordaron de su mano, del día que los rescató de angustia

43 cuando puso en Egipto sus señales, y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán

44 y volvió sus ríos en sangre, y sus corrientes para que no bebieran

45 Envió entre ellos enjambres <em>de moscas</em> que los comían, y ranas que los destruyeron

46 Dio también al pulgón sus frutos, y sus trabajos a la langosta

47 Sus viñas destruyó con granizo, y sus higuerales con piedra

48 y entregó al pedrisco sus bestias, y al fuego sus ganados

49 Envió sobre ellos el furor de su saña; ira, enojo, angustia, y ángeles malos

50 Dispuso el camino a su furor; no eximió el alma de ellos de la muerte, sino que entregó su vida a la mortandad

51 E hirió a todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias de las fuerzas en las tiendas de Cam

52 Hizo salir a su pueblo como ovejas, y los llevó por el desierto, como un rebaño

53 Y los pastoreó con seguridad, que no tuvieron miedo; y el mar cubrió a sus enemigos

54 Los metió después en los términos de su santidad, en este monte que ganó su mano derecha

55 Y echó los gentiles de delante de ellos, y les repartió una herencia con cuerdas; e hizo habitar en sus moradas a las tribus de Israel

56 Mas tentaron y enojaron al Dios Altísimo, y no guardaron sus testimonios

57 sino que se volvieron, y se rebelaron como sus padres; se volvieron como arco engañoso

58 Y le enojaron con sus <em>lugares</em> altos, y le provocaron a celo con sus esculturas

59 <em>Lo</em> oyó Dios, y se enojó, y en gran manera aborreció a Israel

60 Por esta causa dejó el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda <em>en que</em> habitó entre los hombres

61 y dio en cautividad su fortaleza, y su gloria en mano del enemigo

62 Entregó también su pueblo a espada, y se airó contra su heredad

63 El fuego devoró sus jóvenes, y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas <em>en cantos nupciales</em>

64 Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada, y sus viudas no <em>se</em> lamentaron

65 Entonces despertó el Señor a la manera del que ha dormido, como un valiente que grita <em>a causa</em> del vino

66 e hirió a sus enemigos en las partes posteriores; les dio perpetua afrenta

67 Y aborreció la tienda de José, y no escogió la tribu de Efraín

68 Sino que escogió la tribu de Judá, el monte de Sion, al cual amó

69 Y edificó su santuario a manera de eminencia, como la tierra que cimentó para siempre

70 Y eligió a David su siervo, y lo tomó de las majadas de las ovejas

71 de tras las paridas lo trajo, para que apacentara a Jacob su pueblo, y a Israel su heredad

72 Y los apacentó con entereza de su corazón; y los pastoreó con la inteligencia de sus manos

1 My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.

2 I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old—

3 things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us.

4 We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.

5 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children,

6 so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.

7 Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.

8 They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.

9 The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows, turned back on the day of battle;

10 they did not keep God’s covenant and refused to live by his law.

11 They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.

12 He did miracles in the sight of their ancestors in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.

13 He divided the sea and led them through; he made the water stand up like a wall.

14 He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night.

15 He split the rocks in the wilderness and gave them water as abundant as the seas;

16 he brought streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers.

17 But they continued to sin against him, rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.

18 They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved.

19 They spoke against God; they said, “Can God really spread a table in the wilderness?

20 True, he struck the rock, and water gushed out, streams flowed abundantly, but can he also give us bread? Can he supply meat for his people?”

21 When the LORD heard them, he was furious; his fire broke out against Jacob, and his wrath rose against Israel,

22 for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance.

23 Yet he gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens;

24 he rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven.

25 Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat.

26 He let loose the east wind from the heavens and by his power made the south wind blow.

27 He rained meat down on them like dust, birds like sand on the seashore.

28 He made them come down inside their camp, all around their tents.

29 They ate till they were gorged— he had given them what they craved.

30 But before they turned from what they craved, even while the food was still in their mouths,

31 God’s anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel.

32 In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe.

33 So he ended their days in futility and their years in terror.

34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.

35 They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.

36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues;

37 their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant.

38 Yet he was merciful; he forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time he restrained his anger and did not stir up his full wrath.

39 He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.

40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the wasteland!

41 Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel.

42 They did not remember his power— the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,

43 the day he displayed his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the region of Zoan.

44 He turned their river into blood; they could not drink from their streams.

45 He sent swarms of flies that devoured them, and frogs that devastated them.

46 He gave their crops to the grasshopper, their produce to the locust.

47 He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet.

48 He gave over their cattle to the hail, their livestock to bolts of lightning.

49 He unleashed against them his hot anger, his wrath, indignation and hostility— a band of destroying angels.

50 He prepared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague.

51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.

52 But he brought his people out like a flock; he led them like sheep through the wilderness.

53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid; but the sea engulfed their enemies.

54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land, to the hill country his right hand had taken.

55 He drove out nations before them and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance; he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.

56 But they put God to the test and rebelled against the Most High; they did not keep his statutes.

57 Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow.

58 They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols.

59 When God heard them, he was furious; he rejected Israel completely.

60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he had set up among humans.

61 He sent the ark of his might into captivity, his splendor into the hands of the enemy.

62 He gave his people over to the sword; he was furious with his inheritance.

63 Fire consumed their young men, and their young women had no wedding songs;

64 their priests were put to the sword, and their widows could not weep.

65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.

66 He beat back his enemies; he put them to everlasting shame.

67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph, he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;

68 but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.

69 He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever.

70 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens;

71 from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance.

72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.
