And someonesaid to Him, "Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?" And He said to them,

"1Strive to enterthrough the narrowdoor; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

"Once* the head of the housegets up and 2shuts the door, and you begin to standoutside and knock on the door, saying, '3Lord, open up to us!' then He will answer and say to you, '4I do not knowwhere you are from.'

"Then you will 5begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets ';

and He will say, 'I tell you, 6I do not knowwhere you are from; 7DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU EVILDOERS.'

"8In that placethere will be weeping and gnashing of teethwhen you seeAbraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being thrown out.

"And they 9will come from east and west and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.

"And behold, 10some are lastwho will be first and some are firstwho will be last."

Just at that timesomePhariseesapproached, saying to Him, "Goaway, leavehere, for 11Herodwants to kill You."

And He said to them, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and performcurestoday and tomorrow, and the third day I 12reach My goal.'

"Nevertheless13I mustjourney on today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot* be that a 14prophet would perishoutside of Jerusalem.

"15O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stonesthosesent to her! Howoften I wanted to gather your childrentogether, 16just* as a hen gathers her broodunder her wings, and you would not have it!

"Behold, your house is left to you desolate; and I say to you, you will not see Me until the time comeswhen you say, '17BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "
