19 The scribes and the chiefpriests1tried to layhands on Him that veryhour, and they feared the people; for they understood that He spokethisparableagainst them.

2So they watched Him, and sentspies who pretended to be righteous, in order3that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could deliver Him to the rule and the authority of 4the governor.

They questioned Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that You speak and teachcorrectly, and You are not partial* to any, but teach the way of God in truth.

"Is it lawful for us 5to paytaxes to Caesar, or not?"

But He detected their trickery and said to them,

"Show Me a denarius. Whoselikeness and inscription does it have?" They said, "Caesar's."
25
And He said to them, "Then6render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
26
And they were unable* to 7catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people; and beingamazed at His answer, they becamesilent.
Is There a Resurrection?
278Now there came to Him some of the 9Sadducees (who say that there is noresurrection ),

and they questioned Him, saying, "Teacher, Moseswrote for us that 10IF A MAN'SBROTHERDIES, having a wife, AND HE IS CHILDLESS, HIS BROTHER SHOULD MARRY THE WIFE AND RAISE UP CHILDREN TO HIS BROTHER.

"Now there were sevenbrothers; and the firsttook a wife and diedchildless;

"In the resurrectiontherefore, whichone'swife will she be? For allsevenhad married her."

Jesussaid to them, "The sons of 11thisagemarry and are given in marriage,
35
but those who are consideredworthy to attain to 12that age and the resurrection from the dead, neithermarrynor are given in marriage;
36
for they cannot*evendieanymore, because they are likeangels, and are 13sons of God, beingsons of the resurrection.

"But that the dead are raised, evenMosesshowed, in 14the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord15THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB.

"16Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for 17alllive to Him."
