8NowHerod was veryglad when he sawJesus; for 1he hadwanted to see Him for a longtime, because he had been hearingabout Him and was hoping to seesomesignperformed by Him.

And he questioned Him at somelength*; but 2He answered him nothing.

And the chiefpriests and the scribes were standing there, accusing Him vehemently.

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, 3dressed Him in a gorgeousrobe and sent Him back to Pilate.

Now4Herod and Pilatebecamefriends with oneanother that veryday; for before they had been*enemies with eachother.
Pilate Seeks Jesus' Release
13Pilatesummoned the chiefpriests and the 5rulers and the people,
14
and said to them, "You broughtthisman to me as one who 6incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I 7have foundnoguilt in thisman regarding the chargeswhich you makeagainst Him
15
"No, nor has 8Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothingdeservingdeath has beendone by Him.
16
"Therefore I will 9punish Him and release Him."
17
[Now he was obliged* to release to them at the feastone prisoner.]
18
But they cried out alltogether, saying, "10Away with thisman, and release for us Barabbas!"
19
(He was onewho had been thrown into prison for an insurrectionmade in the city, and for murder.
20
Pilate, wanting to releaseJesus, addressed them again,
21
but they kept on calling out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!
22
And he said to them the thirdtime, "Why, whatevil has thismandone? I have found in Him noguilt demanding death; therefore I will 11punish Him and release Him."
23
But they were insistent, with loudvoicesasking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.
24
And Pilatepronouncedsentence that their demand be granted.
25
And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he deliveredJesus to their will.
