Luke 6:20-36

The Beatitudes

And 1he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, 2and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for 3yours is the kingdom of God.
4"Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. 5"Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
"Blessed are you when 6people hate you and when they 7exclude you and revile you and 8spurn your name as evil, 9on account of the Son of Man!
10Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for 11so their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

12"But woe to you who are rich, 13for you 14have received your consolation.
"Woe to you who are full now, for 15you shall be hungry. "Woe to 16you who laugh now, 17for you shall mourn and weep.
"Woe to you, 18when all people speak well of you, for 19so their fathers did to 20the false prophets.

Love Your Enemies

"But I say to you who hear, 21Love your enemies, 22do good to those who hate you,
23bless those who curse you, 24pray for those who abuse you.
25To one who 26strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic[a] either.
27Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.
And 28as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
29"If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
And 30if you 31lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount.
But 32love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and 33you will be sons of 34the Most High, for 35he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
36Be merciful, even as 37your Father is merciful.
