"Howthen will 4the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it musthappenthisway?"

At that timeJesussaid to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a robber? 5Everyday I used to sit in the templeteaching and you did not seize Me.

"But allthis has takenplace to fulfill6the Scriptures of the prophets."Thenall the disciplesleft Him and fled.

But 9Peter was following Him at a distance as far as the 10courtyard of the highpriest, and entered in, and satdown with the 11officers to see the outcome.

Now the chiefpriests and the whole12Council kept trying to obtainfalsetestimonyagainstJesus, so that they might put Him to death.

They did not find any, even though manyfalsewitnessescameforward. But later on 13twocameforward,

and said, "Thismanstated, '14I amable to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in threedays.' "

The highprieststood up and said to Him, "Do You not answer? What is it that thesemen are testifyingagainst You?"
