Jeremías 42:3-13

3 Para que el SEÑOR tu Dios nos enseñe el camino por donde debemos ir, y lo que hemos de hacer

4 Y Jeremías profeta les dijo: Ya he oído. He aquí que voy a orar al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho; y será que todo lo que el SEÑOR os respondiere, os enseñaré; no os reservaré palabra

5 Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: El SEÑOR sea entre nosotros testigo de la verdad y de la lealtad, si no hiciéremos conforme a todo aquello para lo cual el SEÑOR tu Dios te enviare a nosotros

6 Ora sea bueno, ora malo, a la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, escucharemos; para que, obedeciendo a la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, tengamos bien

7 Y aconteció que al cabo de diez días vino palabra del SEÑOR a Jeremías

8 Y llamó a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los príncipes de los ejércitos que estaban con él, y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor

9 y les dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR Dios de Israel, al cual me enviasteis para que hiciera caer vuestros ruegos en su presencia

10 Si os quedareis quietos en esta tierra, os edificaré, y no os destruiré; os plantaré, y no os arrancaré; porque arrepentido estoy del mal que os he hecho

11 No temáis de la presencia del rey de Babilonia, de cuya presencia tenéis temor; no temáis de su presencia, dijo el SEÑOR, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano

12 y os daré misericordias, y tendrá misericordia de vosotros, y os hará morar en vuestra tierra

13 Mas si dijereis: No moraremos en esta tierra, no escuchando así la voz del SEÑOR vuestro Dios

Jeremías 42:3-13 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH CAHPTER 42

This chapter contains a request of the Jews to Jeremiah, to pray to the Lord for them to direct them, and the Lord's answer to it. The request is made by the captains and all the people, Jer 42:1-3; which Jeremiah undertook to present to the Lord, Jer 42:4; they promising to go according to the direction that should be given, Jer 42:5,6. After ten days an answer is returned, and the prophet calls the captains and people together to hear it, Jer 42:7,8; the purport of which was, that if they continued in the land of Judah, it would be well with them, and they would be safe, Jer 42:9-12; but if they went into Egypt, they should die by the sword, famine, and pestilence, and be a curse and reproach, and never see their own land more, Jer 42:13-18; they are charged with dissimulation and disobedience, Jer 42:19-21; and the chapter is concluded with an assurance of their perishing by the above judgments in the place they were desirous of dwelling in, Jer 42:22.
