Jueces 20:5-15

5 Esa noche, algunos de los ciudadanos prominentes de Guibeá rodearon la casa con la intención de matarme, y violaron a mi concubina hasta que quedó muerta.

6 Entonces corté su cuerpo en doce pedazos y envié los pedazos por todo el territorio asignado a Israel, porque esos hombres han cometido un crimen terrible y vergonzoso.

7 Ahora bien, todos ustedes —la comunidad entera de Israel— tienen que decidir aquí y ahora qué debe hacerse al respecto.

8 Y todo el pueblo se puso de pie al mismo tiempo y proclamó a una voz:
—¡Ninguno de nosotros volverá a su hogar! ¡No, ni una sola persona!

9 En cambio, haremos lo siguiente con Guibeá: echaremos suertes para decidir quién la atacará.

10 Una décima parte de los hombres
de cada tribu se encargará de abastecer a los guerreros con provisiones; los demás nos vengaremos de Guibeá,
en Benjamín, por la infamia que sus hombres han cometido en Israel.

11 Así que los israelitas estaban en total unanimidad, y se juntaron para atacar la ciudad.

12 Los israelitas enviaron mensajeros a la tribu de Benjamín, diciendo: «¡Qué acto tan terrible se ha cometido en medio de ustedes!

13 Entréguennos a esos hombres malvados, a esos perturbadores de Guibeá, para que los ejecutemos y así purifiquemos a Israel de semejante maldad».
Pero los de Benjamín no quisieron escuchar.

14 En cambio, salieron de sus ciudades y se juntaron en Guibeá para pelear contra los israelitas.

15 En total, de toda la tribu de Benjamín, llegaron a Guibeá veintiséis mil guerreros armados con espadas, los cuales se sumaron a los setecientos guerreros selectos que vivían allí.

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 20

This chapter relates, how that there was an assembly of the children of Israel at Mizpeh, upon what had happened to the concubine of the Levite, where he appeared and related the whole affair to them, Jud 20:1-7 upon which they unanimously agreed to chastise the inhabitants of Gibeah for what they had done, Jud 20:8-11, and in order to do that sent to the tribe of Benjamin to deliver the guilty, but instead of that they took to their arms, and prepared for battle in defence of them, Jud 20:12-17 and two battles ensued on this, in which the Israelites, who were on the right side of the question, were worsted, Jud 20:18-25 but upon their seeking the Lord again, and their humiliation before him, they engaged a third time in battle, and got an entire victory over the Benjaminites, and destroyed them all excepting six hundred men, Jud 20:26-48.
