Luke 12:3 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 12:3

Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness
In the most private manner, to one another:

shall be heard in the light;
which makes all things manifest, the day shall declare it:

and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets;
whispered to persons in their bedchambers, and places of the most secret retirement;

shall be proclaimed upon the housetops;
declared in the most public manner: in ( Matthew 10:27 ) these words are so expressed, as to carry in them such a sense as this; that what was told the disciples by Christ, in the most private place and way, should be published by them, in the most free and open manner; (See Gill on Matthew 10:27).

Luke 12:3 In-Context

2 Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
3 Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.
4 "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do.
5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!
