Psalms 69:24

24 1Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them.

Psalms 69:24 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 69:24

Pour out thine indignation upon them
Not a few drops of it only, but a flood of it, sweeping away and bearing down all before it; which was done when wrath came upon them to the uttermost, in the destruction of their city, temple, and nation, ( 1 Thessalonians 2:16 ) ;

let thy wrathful anger take hold of them;
follow after them, overtake them, seize upon them, and hold them fast, that they may not escape. It denotes the severity of God towards them; the fierceness and fury of his wrath upon them; and that their destruction would be inevitable, and an entire and utter one.

Psalms 69:24 In-Context

22 May their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, may it become a trap.
23 May their eyes grow dim so that they cannot see, And make their loins shake continually.
24 Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them.
25 May their camp be desolate; May none dwell in their tents.
26 For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, And they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded.
