51
1"You stiff-necked people,
2uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit.
3As your fathers did, so do you.
52
4Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of
5the Righteous One,
6whom you have now betrayed and murdered,
53
you who received the law
7as delivered by angels and
8did not keep it."
The Stoning of Stephen
54 Now when they heard these things
9they were enraged, and they
10ground their teeth at him.
55
But he,
11full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw
12the glory of God, and Jesus standing
13at the right hand of God.
56
And he said, "Behold, I see
14the heavens opened, and
15the Son of Man standing
16at the right hand of God."
57
But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.
58
Then
17they cast him out of the city and
18stoned him. And
19the witnesses laid down their garments
20at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59
And as they were stoning Stephen,
21he called out, "Lord Jesus,
22receive my spirit."
60
And
23falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice,
24"Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this,
25he fell asleep.
