1First of all, then, I urge that 1entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of allmen,
2
2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quietlife in allgodliness and dignity.
3
This is good and acceptable in the sight of 3God our Savior,
4
4whodesiresallmen to be 5saved and to 6come to the knowledge of the truth.
5
For there is 7oneGod, and 8onemediatoralso between God and men, the 9manChristJesus,
6
who 10gaveHimself as a ransom for all, the 11testimony given at 12the propertime.
7
13For this I was appointed a preacher and 14an apostle (15I am telling the truth, I am not lying ) as a teacher of 16the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8
Therefore17I want the men18in everyplace to pray, 19lifting up 20holyhands, withoutwrath and dissension.
Women Instructed
9Likewise, I want 21women to adornthemselves with properclothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braidedhair and goldorpearlsorcostlygarments,
10
but rather by means of goodworks, as is proper for womenmaking a claim to godliness.
11
22A woman must quietlyreceiveinstruction with entiresubmissiveness.
12
23But I do not allow a woman to teachorexerciseauthorityover a man, but to remainquiet.
13
24For it was Adam who was firstcreated, and thenEve.
14
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but 25the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
15
But women will be preservedthrough the bearing of childrenif they continue in 26faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
