Acts 15:22-41

Then it seemed good to 1the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them to send to 2Antioch with Paul and Barnabas -Judas called Barsabbas, and 3Silas, leading men among 4the brethren,
and they sent this letter by them, "5The apostles and the brethren who are elders, to 6the brethren in 7Antioch and 8Syria and 9Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, 10greetings.
"Since we have heard that 11some of our number to whom we gave no instruction have 12disturbed you with their words, unsettling your souls,
13 it seemed good to us, having become of one mind, to select men to send to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
men who have 14risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
"Therefore we have sent 15Judas and 16Silas, who themselves will also report the same things by word of mouth.
"For 17it seemed good to 18the Holy Spirit and to 19us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials:
that you abstain from 20things sacrificed to idols and from 21blood and from 22things strangled and from 23fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell."
So when they were sent away, 24they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter.
When they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement.
25Judas and 26Silas, also being 27prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened 28the brethren with a lengthy message.
After they had spent time there, they were sent away from the brethren 29in peace to those who had 30sent them out.
[But it seemed good to Silas to remain there.]
But 31Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and 32preaching with many others also, 33the word of the Lord.

Second Missionary Journey

After some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us return and visit the brethren in 34every city in which we proclaimed 35the word of the Lord, and see how they are."
Barnabas wanted to take 36John, called Mark, along with them also.
But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had 37deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work.
And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took 38Mark with him and sailed away to 39Cyprus.
But Paul chose 40Silas and left, being 41committed by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.
And he was traveling through 42Syria and 43Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
