Then they moved on from Bethel. While they were still some distance from Ephrath,1 Rachel2 began to give birth and had great difficulty.
And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife3 said to her, "Don't despair, for you have another son."418
As she breathed her last--for she was dying--she named her son Ben-Oni.a5 But his father named him Benjamin.b619
So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath7 (that is, Bethlehem8).
Over her tomb Jacob set up a pillar, and to this day9 that pillar marks Rachel's tomb.1021
Israel moved on again and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder.1122
While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father's concubine12 Bilhah,13 and Israel heard of it. Jacob had twelve sons:
The sons of Leah:14 Reuben the firstborn15 of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah,16 Issachar and Zebulun.1724
The sons of Rachel: Joseph18 and Benjamin.1925
The sons of Rachel's servant Bilhah:20 Dan and Naphtali.2126
The sons of Leah's servant Zilpah:22 Gad23 and Asher.24 These were the sons of Jacob,25 who were born to him in Paddan Aram.2627
Jacob came home to his father Isaac27 in Mamre,28 near Kiriath Arba29 (that is, Hebron),30 where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.3128
Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years.3229
Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people,33 old and full of years.34 And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.35
