1 Kings 9:16

16 (For) Pharaoh, king of Egypt, (had) ascended, and took Gezer, and burnt it by fire; and he killed (the) Canaanites, that dwelled in the city, and gave it into (a) dower to his daughter, the wife of Solomon. (For Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had gone up, and took Gezer, and burned it down; and he killed the Canaanites, who lived in that city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.)

1 Kings 9:16 Meaning and Commentary

1 Kings 9:16

For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and

Egypt lay lower than Canaan, and therefore Pharaoh is said to go up to it; what moved him to it is not certain; whether he went of himself provoked, or was moved to it by Solomon, who had married his daughter; however, so he did, and took the place, and burnt it:

and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife;
not as a dowry with her, but as a present to her; perhaps some time after marriage.

(For Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had gone up, and took Gezer, and burned it down; and he killed the Canaanites, who lived in that city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.)
17 Therefore Solomon builded Gezer (And so Solomon rebuilt Gezer), and the lower Bethhoron,
18 and Baalath, and Tadmor in the land of (the) wilderness;
