1Then I saw in the right hand of the One seated on the throne a scroll with writing on the inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.2I also saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?"3But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or even to look in it.4And I cried and cried because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or even to look in it. 5Then one of the elders said to me, "Stop crying. Look! The Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has been victorious so that He may open the scroll and its seven seals."6Then I saw one like a slaughtered lamb standing between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent into all the earth.7He came and took [the scroll] out of the right hand of the One seated on the throne.
8When He took the scroll, the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the saints.9And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals; because You were slaughtered, and You redeemed [people] for God by Your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10You made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth. 11Then I looked, and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and also of the living creatures, and of the elders. Their number was countless thousands, plus thousands of thousands.12They said with a loud voice: The Lamb who was slaughtered is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing! 13I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say: Blessing and honor and glory and dominion to the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever! 14The four living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.
5Then my God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles, the officials, and the people to be registered by genealogy. I found the genealogical record of those who came back first, and I found [the following] written in it: 6These are the people of the province who went up from among the captive exiles deported by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. Each of them returned to his own town in Jerusalem and Judah.7They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The governor gave 1,000 gold drachmas, 50 bowls, and 530 priestly garments to the treasury.71Some of the family leaders gave 20,000 gold drachmas and 2,200 silver minas to the treasury for the project.72The rest of the people gave 20,000 gold drachmas, 2,000 silver minas, and 67 priestly garments.73So the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, temple singers, some of the people, temple servants, and all Israel settled in their towns.
1all the people gathered together at the square in front of the Water Gate. They asked Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses that the Lord had given Israel.2On the first day of the seventh month, Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly of men, women, and all who could listen with understanding.3While he was facing the square in front of the Water Gate, he read out of it from daybreak until noon before the men, the women, and those who could understand. All the people listened attentively to the book of the law.4Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform made for this purpose. Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah stood beside him on his right; to his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hash-baddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.5Ezra opened the book in full view of all the people, since he was elevated above everyone. As he opened it, all the people stood up.6Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and with their hands uplifted all the people said, "Amen, Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. 7Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah, who were Levites, explained the law to the people as they stood in their places.8They read the book of the law of God, translating and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was read.9Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, "This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep." For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law.10Then he said to them, "Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because your strength [comes from] rejoicing in the Lord."11And the Levites quieted all the people, saying, "Be still, since today is holy. Do not grieve."12Then all the people began to eat and drink, send portions, and have a great celebration, because they had understood the words that were explained to them.
1Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth. 2Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. 3Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, and we are His - His people, the sheep of His pasture. 4Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name. 5For the Lord is good, and His love is eternal; His faithfulness endures through all generations.
