1"Blessed be the Lord 2God of Israel, for he has 3visited and 4redeemed his people
and 5has raised up 6a horn of salvation for us 7in the house of his servant David,
8as 9he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
10that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;
11to show the mercy promised to our fathers and 12to remember his holy 13covenant,
14the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him 15without fear,
16in holiness and righteousness before him 17all our days.
And you, child, will be called 18the prophet of 19the Most High; for 20you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people 21in the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the 22tender mercy of our God, whereby 23the sunrise shall 24visit us25from on high
to 26give light to 27those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into 28the way of 29peace."
