[Now he was obliged* to release to them at the feastone prisoner.]

But they cried out alltogether, saying, "1Away with thisman, and release for us Barabbas!"

(He was onewho had been thrown into prison for an insurrectionmade in the city, and for murder.

Pilate, wanting to releaseJesus, addressed them again,

but they kept on calling out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!

And he said to them the thirdtime, "Why, whatevil has thismandone? I have found in Him noguilt demanding death; therefore I will 2punish Him and release Him."

But they were insistent, with loudvoicesasking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.

And Pilatepronouncedsentence that their demand be granted.

And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he deliveredJesus to their will.
Simon Bears the Cross
263When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of 4Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carrybehindJesus.

And following Him was a largecrowd of the people, and of womenwho were 5mourning and lamenting Him.
