1 Elías es alimentado por cuervos<br />Ahora bien, Elías, quien era de Tisbé en Galaad, le dijo al rey Acab: «Tan cierto como que el Señor<br /> vive, el Dios de Israel —a quien sirvo—, no habrá rocío ni lluvia durante los próximos años, ¡hasta que yo dé la orden!».

Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.”
2 Después el Señor<br /> le dijo a Elías:

Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah:
3 «Vete al oriente y escóndete junto al arroyo de Querit, cerca de su desembocadura en el río Jordán.

“Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan.
4 Bebe del arroyo y come lo que te den los cuervos, porque yo les he ordenado que te lleven comida».

You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”
5 Entonces Elías hizo lo que el Señor<br /> le dijo y acampó junto al arroyo de Querit, al oriente del Jordán.

So he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there.
6 Los cuervos le llevaban pan y carne por la mañana y por la noche, y él bebía del arroyo.

The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.
7 Sin embargo, poco después, el arroyo se secó porque no había llovido en ninguna parte del reino.

Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.
8 La viuda de Sarepta<br />Luego el Señor<br /> dijo a Elías:

Then the word of the LORD came to him:
9 «Vete a vivir a la aldea de Sarepta, que está cerca de la ciudad de Sidón. Yo le he ordenado a una viuda de allí que te alimente».

“Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”
10 Elías se dirigió a Sarepta y, cuando llegó a las puertas del pueblo, vio a una viuda juntando leña y le dijo:<br />—Por favor, ¿podrías traerme un poco de agua en una taza?

So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?”
11 Mientras ella iba a buscarle el agua, la llamó y dijo:<br />—También tráeme un bocado de pan.

As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”
12 Pero ella respondió:<br />—Le juro por el Señor<br /> su Dios que no tengo ni un pedazo de pan en la casa. Solo me queda un puñado de harina en el frasco y un poquito de aceite en el fondo del jarro. Estaba juntando algo de leña para preparar una última comida, después mi hijo y yo moriremos.

“As surely as the LORD your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
13 Entonces Elías le dijo:<br />—¡No tengas miedo! Sigue adelante y haz exactamente lo que acabas de decir, pero primero cocina un poco de pan para mí. Luego, con lo que te sobre, prepara la comida para ti y tu hijo.

Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.
14 Pues el Señor<br />, Dios de Israel dice: “Siempre habrá harina y aceite de oliva en tus recipientes, ¡hasta que el Señor<br /> mande lluvia y vuelvan a crecer los cultivos!”.

For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the land.’ ”
15 Así que ella hizo lo que Elías le dijo, y ella, su familia y Elías comieron durante muchos días.

She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.
16 Siempre había suficiente harina y aceite de oliva en los recipientes, tal como el Señor<br /> lo había prometido por medio de Elías.

For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.
17 Tiempo después, el hijo de la mujer se enfermó. Cada día empeoraba y finalmente murió.

Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing.
18 Entonces ella le dijo a Elías:<br />—¡Ay, hombre de Dios! ¿Qué me ha hecho usted? ¿Ha venido aquí para señalarme mis pecados y matar a mi hijo?

She said to Elijah, “What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?”
19 Pero Elías contestó:<br />—Dame a tu hijo.<br />Entonces tomó el cuerpo del niño de los brazos de la madre, lo cargó por las escaleras hasta la habitación donde él estaba alojado y lo puso sobre la cama.

“Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed.
20 Después Elías clamó al Señor<br />: «Oh Señor<br /> mi Dios, ¿por qué le has traído desgracia a esta viuda que me abrió su casa, al provocar la muerte de su hijo?».

Then he cried out to the LORD, “LORD my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?”
21 Entonces Elías se tendió sobre el niño tres veces y clamó al Señor<br />: «¡Oh Señor<br /> mi Dios, te ruego que le devuelvas la vida a este niño!».

Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the LORD, “LORD my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”
22 El Señor<br /> oyó la oración de Elías, ¡y la vida volvió al niño, y revivió!

The LORD heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived.
23 Entonces Elías bajó al niño de la habitación en el piso de arriba y se lo entregó a su madre.<br />—¡Mira —le dijo—, tu hijo vive!

Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother and said, “Look, your son is alive!”
24 Entonces la mujer le dijo a Elías:<br />—Ahora estoy convencida de que usted es un hombre de Dios y que de verdad el Señor<br /> habla por medio de usted.

Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is the truth.”
