17 E Davide disse a Dio: "Non sono io quegli che ordinai il censimento del popolo? Son io che ho peccato, e che ho agito con tanta malvagità; ma queste pecore che hanno fatto? Ti prego, o Eterno, o mio Dio, si volga la tua mano contro di me e contro la casa di mio padre, ma non contro il tuo popolo, per colpirlo col flagello!"

David said to God, “Was it not I who ordered the fighting men to be counted? I, the shepherd, have sinned and done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? LORD my God, let your hand fall on me and my family, but do not let this plague remain on your people.”
