8 Entonces se levantó, comió y bebió, y la comida le dio fuerza suficiente para viajar durante cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta llegar al monte Sinaí,<br /> la montaña de Dios.

So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
9 Allí llegó a una cueva, donde pasó la noche.<br />El Señor<br /> le habla a Elías<br />Entonces el Señor<br /> le dijo a Elías:<br />—¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10 —He servido con gran celo al Señor<br /> Dios Todopoderoso —respondió Elías—; pero el pueblo de Israel ha roto su pacto contigo, derribó tus altares y mató a cada uno de tus profetas. Yo soy el único que queda con vida, y ahora me buscan para matarme a mí también.

He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
11 El Señor<br /> le dijo:<br />—Sal y ponte de pie delante de mí, en la montaña.<br />Mientras Elías estaba de pie allí, el Señor<br /> pasó, y un viento fuerte e impetuoso azotó la montaña. La ráfaga fue tan tremenda que las rocas se aflojaron, pero el Señor<br /> no estaba en el viento. Después del viento hubo un terremoto, pero el Señor<br /> no estaba en el terremoto.

The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
12 Pasado el terremoto hubo un incendio, pero el Señor<br /> no estaba en el incendio. Y después del incendio hubo un suave susurro.

After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
13 Cuando Elías lo oyó, se cubrió la cara con su manto, salió y se paró a la entrada de la cueva.<br />Entonces una voz le dijo:<br />—¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

The LORD said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram.
16 Después unge a Jehú, nieto de Nimsi,<br /> para que sea rey de Israel; y unge a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, de la tierra de Abel-mehola, para que tome tu lugar como mi profeta.

Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.
17 ¡A cualquiera que escape de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y a los que escapen de Jehú, Eliseo los matará!

Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu.
18 Sin embargo, preservaré a otros siete mil en Israel, ¡quienes nunca se han inclinado ante Baal ni lo han besado!

Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
