1 Yǐsèliè rén chū qù yǔ Fēilìshì rén dǎzhàng , ān yíng zaì yǐbiàn Yǐxiè . Fēilìshì rén ān yíng zaì Yàfú .

And Samuel’s word came to all Israel. Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek.
2 Fēilìshì rén xiàng Yǐsèliè rén bǎi zhèn . liǎng jūn jiāo zhàn de shíhou , Yǐsèliè rén baì zaì Fēilìshì rén miànqián . Fēilìshì rén zaì zhàn cháng shàng shā le tāmende jūn bīng yuē yǒu sì qiā rén .

The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield.
3 Bǎixìng huí dào yíng lǐ , Yǐsèliè de zhǎnglǎo shuō , Yēhéhuá jīnrì wèihé shǐ wǒmen baì zaì Fēilìshì rén miànqián ne . wǒmen bù rú jiāng Yēhéhuá de yuē guì cóng shì luō tái dào wǒmen zhèlǐ lái , hǎo zaì wǒmen zhōngjiān jiù wǒmen tuōlí dírén de shǒu .

When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did the LORD bring defeat on us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the LORD’s covenant from Shiloh, so that he may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies.”
4 Yúshì bǎixìng dǎfa rén dào Shìluó , cóng nàli jiāng1 zuò zaì èr Jīlùbǎi shàng wàn jūn zhī Yēhéhuá de yuē guì tái lái . Yǐlì de liǎng gè érzi hé Fú ní , Fēiníhā yǔ shén de yuē guì tóng lái .

So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
5 Yēhéhuá de yuē guì dào le yíng zhōng , Yǐsèliè zhòngrén jiù dàshēng huānhū , dì biàn zhèndòng .

When the ark of the LORD’s covenant came into the camp, all Israel raised such a great shout that the ground shook.
6 Fēilìshì rén tīngjian huānhū de shēngyīn , jiù shuō , zaì Xībólái rén yíng lǐ dàshēng huānhū , shì shénme yuángù ne . suíhòu jiù zhīdào Yēhéhuá de yuē guì dào le yíng zhōng .

Hearing the uproar, the Philistines asked, “What’s all this shouting in the Hebrew camp?” When they learned that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp,
7 Fēilìshì rén jiù jùpà qǐlai , shuō , yǒu shén dào le tāmen yíng zhōng . yòu shuō , wǒmen yǒu huò le . xiàng lái bú céng yǒu zhèyàng de shì .

the Philistines were afraid. “A god has come into the camp,” they said. “Oh no! Nothing like this has happened before.
8 Wǒmen yǒu huò le . shuí néng jiù wǒmen tuōlí zhèxie dà néng zhī shén de shǒu ne . cóng qián zaì kuàngyĕ yòng gèyàng zāiyāng jī dá Āijí rén de , jiù shì zhèxie shén .

We’re doomed! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
9 Fēilìshì rén nǎ , nǐmen yào gāngqiáng , yào zuò dà zhàngfu , miǎndé zuò Xībólái rén de núpú , rútóng tāmen zuò nǐmen de núpú yíyàng . nǐmen yào zuò dà zhàngfu , yǔ tāmen zhēng zhàn .

Be strong, Philistines! Be men, or you will be subject to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Be men, and fight!”
10 Fēilìshì rén hé Yǐsèliè rén dǎzhàng , Yǐsèliè rén baì le , gè xiàng gè jiā bēn taó , beì shā de rén shén duō , Yǐsèliè de bù bīng pú dǎo le sān wàn .

So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers.
11 Shén de yuē guì beìlǔ qù , Yǐlì de liǎng gè érzi hé Fú ní , Fēiníhā yĕ dōu beì shā le .

The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.
12 Dāng rì , yǒu yī gè Biànyǎmǐn rén cóng zhèn shàng taópǎo , yīfu sī liè , tóu ménghuī chén , lái dào Shìluó .

That same day a Benjamite ran from the battle line and went to Shiloh with his clothes torn and dust on his head.

When he arrived, there was Eli sitting on his chair by the side of the road, watching, because his heart feared for the ark of God. When the man entered the town and told what had happened, the whole town sent up a cry.
14 Yǐlì tīngjian hūhǎn de shēngyīn jiù wèn shuō , zhè xuān nāng shì shénme yuángù ne . nà rén jímáng lái bàoxìn gĕi Yǐlì .

Eli heard the outcry and asked, “What is the meaning of this uproar?” The man hurried over to Eli,
15 Nàshí Yǐlì jiǔ shí bā suì le , yǎnmù fā zhí , bùnéng kànjian .

who was ninety-eight years old and whose eyes had failed so that he could not see.
16 Nà rén duì Yǐlì shuō , wǒ shì cóng zhèn shàng lái de , jīnrì wǒ cóng zhèn shàng taó huí . Yǐlì shuō , wǒ ér , shìqing zĕnyàng .

He told Eli, “I have just come from the battle line; I fled from it this very day.” Eli asked, “What happened, my son?”
17 Bàoxìn de huídá shuō , Yǐsèliè rén zaì Fēilìshì rén miànqián taópǎo , mín zhōng beì shā de shén duō . nǐde liǎng gè érzi hé Fú ní , Fēiníhā yĕ dōu sǐ le , bìngqiĕ shén de yuē guì beìlǔ qù .

The man who brought the news replied, “Israel fled before the Philistines, and the army has suffered heavy losses. Also your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.”
18 Tā yī tí shén de yuē guì , Yǐlì jiù cóng tāde wèi shàng wǎng hòu diēdǎo , zaì mén páng zhé duàn jǐngxiàng ér sǐ . yīnwei tā niánjì lǎomaì , shēntǐ chén zhòng . Yǐlì zuò Yǐsèliè de shì shī sì shí nián .

When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old man, and he was heavy. He had led Israel forty years.
19 Yǐlì de ér fù , Fēiníhā de qī huáiyùn jiāng dào chǎnqī , tā tīngjian shén de yuē guì beìlǔ qù , gōng gōng hé zhàngfu dōu sǐ le , jiù mĕng rán téngtòng , qǔ shēn shēngchǎn .

His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and near the time of delivery. When she heard the news that the ark of God had been captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went into labor and gave birth, but was overcome by her labor pains.
20 Jiāngyào sǐ de shíhou , pángbiān zhàn zhe de fùrén men duì tā shuō , búyào pà . nǐ shēng le nánhái zǐ le . tā què bù huídá , yĕ bù fàng zaì xīn shàng .

As she was dying, the women attending her said, “Don’t despair; you have given birth to a son.” But she did not respond or pay any attention.
21 Tā gĕi háizi qǐmíng jiào yǐ jiā bó , shuō , róngyào líkāi Yǐsèliè le . zhè shì yīn shén de yuē guì beìlǔ qù , yòu yīn tā gōng gōng hé zhàngfu dōu sǐ le .

She named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The Glory has departed from Israel”—because of the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.
22 tā yòu shuō , róngyào líkāi Yǐsèliè , yīnwei shén de yuē guì beìlǔ qù le .

She said, “The Glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.”
