1 Rén ruò xiǎng dé jiāndū de zhífèn , jiù shì xiànmù shàn gōng . zhè huà shì kĕ xìn de .

Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task.
2 Zuò jiāndū de , bìxū wú kĕ zhǐzé , zhǐ zuò yī gĕ fùrén de zhàngfu , yǒu jié zhì , zì shǒu , duānzhèng . lèyì jiēdaì yuǎn rén , shàn yú jiàodǎo .

Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3 Bù yīn jiǔ zī shì , bù dǎ rén , zhǐyào wēnhé , bù zhēngjing , bù tān cái .

not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
4 Hǎo hǎo guǎnlǐ zìjǐ de jiā , shǐ érnǚ fán shì duān zhuāng shùnfú . ( huò zuò duān duān zhuāng zhuāng de shǐ érnǚ shùnfú )

He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.
5 Rén ruò bù zhīdào guǎnlǐ zìjǐ de jiā , yān néng zhào guǎn shén de jiàohuì ne .

(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)
6 Chū rù jiào de bùkĕ zuò jiāndū , kǒngpà tā zì gāo zì dà , jiù luò zaì móguǐ suǒ shòu de xíngfá lǐ .

He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.
7 Jiāndū yĕ bìxū zaì jiào waì yǒu hǎo míngsheng , kǒngpà beì rén huǐbàng , luò zaì móguǐ de wǎngluó lǐ .

He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.
8 Lún zhíshì de yĕ shì rúcǐ , bìxū duān zhuāng , bú yīkǒu liǎng shé , bú hào hē jiǔ , bù tān bú yì zhī cái .

In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.
9 Yào cún qīngjié de liángxīn , gù shǒu zhēn dào de àomì .

They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.
10 Zhè dĕng rén yĕ yào xiān shòu shìyàn ruò méiyǒu kĕ zé zhī chù , ránhòu jiào tāmen zuò zhíshì .

They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
11 Nǚ zhíshì ( yuánwén zuò nǚrén ) yĕ shì rúcǐ , bìxū duān zhuāng , bù shuō chán yán , yǒu jié zhì , fán shì zhōngxīn .

In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.
12 Zhíshì zhǐyào zuò yī ge fùrén de zhàngfu , hǎo hǎo guǎnlǐ érnǚ hé zìjǐ de jiā .

A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.
13 Yīnwei shàn zuò zhíshì de , zìjǐ jiù de dào mĕihǎo de dìbù , bìngqiĕ zaì Jīdū Yēsū lǐ de zhēn dào shǎng dà yǒu dǎnliàng .

Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.
14 Wǒ zhǐwang kuaì dào nǐ nàli qù , suǒyǐ xiān jiāng zhèxie shì xiĕ gĕi nǐ .

Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that,
15 Tǎngruò wǒ dān yán rì jiǔ , nǐ yĕ kĕyǐ zhīdào zaì shén de jiā zhōng dāng zĕnyàng xíng . zhè jiā jiù shì yǒngshēng shén de jiàohuì , zhēnlǐ de zhùshí hé gēnjī.

if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
16 Dà zāi , jìng qián de àomì , wú rén bù yǐwéi rán , jiù shì shén zaì ròushēn xiǎnxiàn , beì Shènglíng chēng yì , ( huò zuò zaì língxìng chēng yì ) , beì tiānshǐ kànjian , beì chuán yú waì bāng , beì shìrén xìnfú , beì jiē zaì róngyào lǐ .

Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit,was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
