1 Chronicles 17

LEB 1 And as David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, "Look, I live in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Yahweh [is] under tent curtains." NIV 1 After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent.” LEB 2 And Nathan said to David, "Whatever [is] in your heart, do, for God [is] with you." NIV 2 Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.” LEB 3 And it happened that same night the word of God came to Nathan, saying, NIV 3 But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying: LEB 4 "Go and say to David my servant, 'Thus says Yahweh, "You [are] not to build a house for me to live [in], NIV 4 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. LEB 5 for I have not lived in a house from the day that I brought out Israel unto this day. I have been from tent to tent and from tabernacle [to tabernacle]. NIV 5 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another. LEB 6 In every [place] I have moved about, did I say one word [with] the judges of Israel I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, 'Why have you not built for me a house of cedar?'" ' NIV 6 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders whom I commanded to shepherd my people, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?” ’ LEB 7 So now, thus you shall say to my servant David, 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over my people Israel, NIV 7 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. LEB 8 and I have been with you wherever you went and have cut down your enemies from before you and will make a name for you, like the name of the great ones on the earth. NIV 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth. LEB 9 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and I will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place and be in anguish no longer. And wicked men will no longer wear them down as before, NIV 9 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning LEB 10 from the day that I commanded judges over my people Israel. And I will subdue your enemies, and I declare to you [that] Yahweh will build for you a house. NIV 10 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. “ ‘I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you: LEB 11 And it shall be that when your days are fulfilled to go [and sleep] with your ancestors, then I will raise up your seed after you, who will be one of your sons, and I will establish his kingdom. NIV 11 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. LEB 12 He himself will build for me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. NIV 12 He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. LEB 13 I myself will be a father to him, and he himself will be a son to me. And I will not remove my steadfast love from him as I took it away from whoever was before you. NIV 13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. LEB 14 And I will establish him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever." '" NIV 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.’ ” LEB 15 According to all these words and according to all this revelation, thus did Nathan speak to David. NIV 15 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation. LEB 16 Then King David went and sat before Yahweh and said, "Who [am] I, O Yahweh God, and what [is] my house that you have brought me thus far? NIV 16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: “Who am I, LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? LEB 17 And this was a small [matter] in your eyes, O God. And you have spoken concerning the house of your servant for a long [time] and have shown me {future generations to come}, O Yahweh God. NIV 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, LORD God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men. LEB 18 {What more} can David [do] to you for honoring your servant? Now you know your servant. NIV 18 “What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant, LEB 19 O Yahweh, for the sake of your servant and according to your heart you have done all this greatness, to make known all [these] great things. NIV 19 LORD. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises. LEB 20 O Yahweh, there is none like you, and there is no God except you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. NIV 20 “There is no one like you, LORD, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. LEB 21 And who [is] like your people Israel, [the] one nation upon earth whom God went to redeem for himself, to establish for you a reputation for great and awesome things, to drive out nations from before your people whom you redeemed from Egypt? NIV 21 And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth whose God went out to redeem a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? LEB 22 And you made your people Israel an everlasting nation for yourself. And you, O Yahweh, became their God. NIV 22 You made your people Israel your very own forever, and you, LORD, have become their God. LEB 23 So now, O Yahweh, let the word that you spoke to your servant and to his house be established forever, that you might do what you have spoken. NIV 23 “And now, LORD, let the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house be established forever. Do as you promised, LEB 24 And let your name be established and be magnified forever, saying, 'Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, is Israel's God, and may the house of David your servant be established before you.' NIV 24 so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The LORD Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel’s God!’ And the house of your servant David will be established before you. LEB 25 For you, my God, {have informed} your servant [that] you will build a house for him. Therefore, your servant has found [courage] to pray before you. NIV 25 “You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you. LEB 26 So now, O Yahweh, you yourself [are] God, and you have spoken to your servant this good thing. NIV 26 You, LORD, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. LEB 27 And now may you begin to bless the house of your servant {to continue forever} before you, for you, O Yahweh, have blessed. And it will be blessed forever." NIV 27 Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, LORD, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.”
