1 Corinthians 3

RSVA 1 But I, brethren, could not address you as spiritual men, but as men of the flesh, as babes in Christ. NIV 1 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. RSVA 2 I fed you with milk, not solid food; for you were not ready for it; and even yet you are not ready, NIV 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. RSVA 3 for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh, and behaving like ordinary men? NIV 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? RSVA 4 For when one says, "I belong to Paul," and another, "I belong to Apol'los," are you not merely men? NIV 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings? RSVA 5 What then is Apol'los? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. NIV 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. RSVA 6 I planted, Apol'los watered, but God gave the growth. NIV 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. RSVA 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. NIV 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. RSVA 8 He who plants and he who waters are equal, and each shall receive his wages according to his labor. NIV 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. RSVA 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. NIV 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. RSVA 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. NIV 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. RSVA 11 For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. NIV 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. RSVA 12 Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw-- NIV 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, RSVA 13 each man's work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. NIV 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. RSVA 14 If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. NIV 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. RSVA 15 If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. NIV 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. RSVA 16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? NIV 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? RSVA 17 If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are. NIV 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. RSVA 18 Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. NIV 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. RSVA 19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," NIV 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness” ; RSVA 20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." NIV 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” RSVA 21 So let no one boast of men. For all things are yours, NIV 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, RSVA 22 whether Paul or Apol'los or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future, all are yours; NIV 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, RSVA 23 and you are Christ's; and Christ is God's. NIV 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
