1 Timothy 2

WNT 1 I exhort then, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men; NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— WNT 2 including kings and all who are in high station, in order that we may live peaceful and tranquil lives with all godliness and gravity. NIV 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. WNT 3 This is right, and is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, NIV 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, WNT 4 who is willing for all mankind to be saved and come to a full knowledge of the truth. NIV 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. WNT 5 For there is but one God and but one Mediator between God and men--Christ Jesus, Himself man; NIV 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, WNT 6 who gave Himself as the redemption price for all--a fact testified to at its own appointed time, NIV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. WNT 7 and of which I have been appointed a herald and an Apostle (I am speaking the truth: it is not a fiction), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. NIV 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles. WNT 8 So then I would have the men everywhere pray, lifting to God holy hands which are unstained with anger or strife; NIV 8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. WNT 9 and I would have the women dress becomingly, with modesty and self-control, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothes, NIV 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, WNT 10 but--as befits women making a claim to godliness--with the ornament of good works. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. WNT 11 A woman should quietly learn from others with entire submissiveness. NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. WNT 12 I do not permit a woman to teach, nor have authority over a man, but she must remain silent. NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. WNT 13 For Adam was formed first, and then Eve; NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. WNT 14 and Adam was not deceived, but his wife was thoroughly deceived, and so became involved in transgression. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. WNT 15 Yet a woman will be brought safely through childbirth if she and her husband continue to live in faith and love and growing holiness, with habitual self-restraint. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
