1 Corinthians 10:1-13

CEB 1 Brothers and sisters, I want you to be sure of the fact that our ancestors were all under the cloud and they all went through the sea. NRS 1 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, CEB 2 All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. NRS 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, CEB 3 All ate the same spiritual food, NRS 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, CEB 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. NRS 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. CEB 5 However, God was unhappy with most of them, and they were struck down in the wilderness. NRS 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, and they were struck down in the wilderness. CEB 6 These things were examples for us, so we won't crave evil things like they did. NRS 6 Now these things occurred as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil as they did. CEB 7 Don't worship false gods like some of them did, as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and they got up to play. NRS 7 Do not become idolaters as some of them did; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and they rose up to play." CEB 8 Let's not practice sexual immorality, like some of them did, and twenty-three thousand died in one day. NRS 8 We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. CEB 9 Let's not test Christ, like some of them did, and were killed by the snakes. NRS 9 We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents. CEB 10 Let's not grumble, like some of them did, and were killed by the destroyer. NRS 10 And do not complain as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. CEB 11 These things happened to them as an example and were written as a warning for us to whom the end of time has come. NRS 11 These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come. CEB 12 So those who think they are standing need to watch out or else they may fall. NRS 12 So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall. CEB 13 No temptation has seized you that isn't common for people. But God is faithful. He won't allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it. NRS 13 No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.
